I Robert, son of Ellis de Scheluelay, have given, granted and by this charter confirmed to John de
Scheluelay my lord one plot of land and meadow in the vill of Scheluelay, namely the place called [?]Elyswod, which
lies to the west of the said vill, of which one part abuts on the river towards le Heymor and the other part on the land
of the said John which is called [?]Tomrod, to hold with the woods and all their other appurtenances to him
and his heirs or assigns from me and my heirs, free and quit of the chief lords of the fee.
For this grant John has given me a sum of money. Warranty by Robert and his heirs.
Witnesses: William de [?]Birton, John
de Schepelay, Adam de Helay, Robert de Wlnewro, Richard de Thornitlay and others.
[Several of the names in this charter occur in numbers 187-190 on pages 64 and 65 of William Brown, ed., Yorkshire Deeds, volume 3 (1922). The first of these, dated after 1290, shows the most similarities.]
