The coheirs were the three daughters of the last Baron's son and h. ap., Edward Burnell, who m. 1stly Alienore, da. of Lord Strange, and 2ndly, Elizabeth, da. of Michael de la Pole, 2nd Earl of Suffolk, who was living as his widow 7 July 1421; she m. 2ndly, circa 1425, Sir Thomas Kerdeston and d. before Apr. 1440; he d. v.p. 23 Sep. 1415 of disease at the siege of Harfleur. (1) Joyce, aged 24, wife of Thomas Erdington, junior. She d.s.p. (2) Katherine, aged 14, who m. 1stly, Sir John Ratcliffe, whose descendants, the Earls of Sussex, styled themselves Barons Burnell. (3) Margaret, aged 11, m., shortly before 8 Nov. 1416, Edmund Hungerford, (yr. son of Walter, 1st Baron Hungerford, which Edmund is called Dominus de Burnell in a Feudal Aid, 1428) whose lineal representative m. Edmund Dunch, cr. Baron Burnell of East Wittenham, in 1658, by Cromwell, as mentioned in the text.

Charles M. Hansen [Genealogists' Magazine, vol. 22, pp. 373-377 (1988)] interprets a transaction dated 18 June 1415 as a settlement made after Sir Edward Burnell's second marriage, to Elizabeth de la Pole. His daughters would therefore be children of his first marriage. Henry Sutliff, in December 1998, reported a personal communication from Peter Hammond, identifying his first wife Eleanor as the daughter of John, 6th Lord Strange of Knockyn and his wife Maud, 3rd and youngest daughter and coheir of John, 2nd Lord Mohun.
