Encountering Nicholas Messenger rector of the church and Thomas Williamson chaplain Wm Fitzwilliam said "Ye false h__ knave prests what do you here by gods soule you shalnot be here (nor) then prest shall not serve here except then serve for me". 34 Hen VIII Benefield, Southwick Inquest held at Benefeyld 12th July before Gilbert Pykeryng coroner on the body of Joan Clarke of Sothwyke on the oaths of William Enne, John Frere, Christopher Rowell, Hugh (Booke), Thomas Curtysse, Thomas Browne, Martin (Hemanche/Hemaunche), Wiliam Clerke, William Byshope, Henry Cletherowe, Richard Benyngton, Henry Bolyn & Nicholas Wryght. On 11th July about the hour of two the aforesaid Joan Clarke was in a cart (with) Agnes Johnson of Sothewyke widow sitting in peace when the horse ran towards Benefeyld and the cart turned over. Joan hit her head and was killed. Misfortune. The horse was worth 3 shillings 4 pence and remains of the cart 12 pence and are in the custody of Agnes Johnson.

On the day above said John Folwer of 'hold Brackley' husbandman, John Lep' of Hinton husbandman, a forest called whytewod, a plough, a staff called a 'rave stave', big head injury. The plough with (beams) was worth 20 shillings. Seems to be misfortune.

On 2nd June John Fryssby of Lowick, something about sitting on a wall, archery and a head wound. Alexander lived until the 12th June when he died. John Fryssbye had no chattels. Misfortune.

On 11th October he was sitting under a pile of beans called a hovell of bennes at Marston when it fell and he was choked? Dispute between Valentine Kynghtley of Fauleslay armiger and Robert Stafford of Upton armiger re a wood called Farthyngston wodde. Robert Stafford, John Lytley/Litteley of Upton yeoman and William Smyth the 20th May 35 Henry VIII with swords and shields assaulted Valentine Knyghtley in the fields of Farthingstone. Thomas Edson a servant of Valentine said "Master Stafford I charge you kepe the king's peace". Stafford (?) responds with "Knyghtley com thou and 8 or 10 of they servants and fight with me and thre of my servants". John Lawney a servant of Knyghtley. Someone says "By godds blodde if I might have but one stripe at the knave I did not care and if I hadd but one stykk of the wood".

Wm Nelson left his bed about 10am and to the hall and added tables called 'bords' and seats called 'formes'. In the bedroom took a halter called 'a olde coller halter of lether hungrey' worth 1 penny and stood on a bedstead and placed the halter around his neck with 'a runnyng knot' and there and then hanged himself. Suicide.

35 Hen VIII Barnwell, Lowick Inquest held at Barnewell 10th May before Gilbert Pykerynge coroner for the hundred of Huxloe on the body of John Barkar of Barnwell, weaver, on the oaths of Richard Wolaston, Richard Deekyn, Richard Ab__ne, William Yarwell, Robert Grene, Thomas (Gydbery). On the 9th May about 5am, the cart of John Coxe of Luffewyk, Barkar was in the cart which overturned and the wheel ran over him such that he died quickly afterwards. The remains of the cart were worth 12 pence and he wheel worth 5 pence and are in the custody of John Coxe. Misfortune.

William Hochynson late of Lamport was sleeping in the fields of Lamport next to a road called Drawghton weye on the 8th July when about 3pm Fulc Wyghtman, labourer, comes along. Seems to involve a knife but ruled misfortune.

Edmund Skaterwhight late of Chadson in the parish of Sponden in Derbyshire was taking a wagon and John sat in it on the (13th) June in Kelmarsh, somehow the left wheel crushed John's neck. John was age 16 and was from the north (and going to London seeking service). The wheel was worth 10 shillings and is held by Richard (Sokburne) of Kelmarsh.

On 9th August about 1pm in a stable at Wylby the aforesaid John Hays hanged himself from a beam. Alice Hays his wife. He had a sleveless jacket, a white peticoat, a pair of boots and shoes and a smock? Robert Dryver, cleric and rector of Harrington, Roger Dryver of Desborough, Alice Hays (there follows in English): Be it known to all men by these present that I John Hays of the town and parish of Wylbe husbandman the 4th day of August in the 36th year of the reign of our sovereign lord king Henry the 8th by the grace of god (et cetera) have freely and willingly given and by these present do freely give and at this present day deliver free interest and possession on in and upon all my goods as well moveable and immovable within the the town and parish of Wilbe as also all my goods of and in the parish of Pitsford (Pysforth) unto Robert Dryver clerk and parson of Harrington and Roger Dryver of Desborough and to Alys Hays my wife upon the condition they before named or any of them shall well and competently find and sustain me the said John Hays all manner of necesseties as well meat and drink as also clothing and house room during my natural life and also they or any of them to perform and paye my debts and to give to each of my children some honest portion towards their marriage when and as soon as any of them shall fortune to marry at their discretions and as my goods then and at that time shall extend unto In witness whereof the said John Hays has not only discharged myself of all my goods as well moveable and immovable but also am contented to be bounden in an obligation bearing date the 5th of August ___ to the performing of the premises unto the right honourable Sir Thomas Vaus knight Lord Harrowden These being witnesses Edmund Newneham gentleman, John (Partesoell) gent, Roger Reynollds clerk, John Althorpe with others at Wylbe the day and the year above specified. There follows another note in English which seems to say that the above obligation is "to be of no effect". Suicide.
