Volume 12, part 2, page 437:
ROBERT DE WELLE [died before Michaelmas 1206] ... farmed the Honor of Haughley, Suffolk, alias the Honor of the Constable, 1184-88.(e)

Pipe Rolls, 30-34 Hen. II, passim. In 1180 Robert, s. of William, nepos of the Constable, is mentioned in Lincolnshire; and in the follg. year the same man was charged 25s. relief in that co. (Idem., 26 Hen. II, p. 54; 27 Hen. II, p. 56). Gilbert, Earl of Lincoln, Robert's uncle, had held the Honor of the Constable temp. Stephen (Pipe Roll, 15 Hen. II, p. 111; Round, Geoffrey de Mandeville, p. 327; Farrer, op. cit. [Early Yorkshire Charters], vol. ii, p. 433).

Peter Wells [Foundations, vol. 1, pp. 373, 374 (2005)] showed that the Robert de Welles who farmed the Honor of Haughley with William de Ashford was a different Robert de Welles, who was dead by 1212, and was the son of Gervase de Welles. The account of the appearances of Robert son of William in the Lincolnshire pipe rolls is slightly incorrect - in the same year (1180) that Robert son of William, nepos of the constable, appears, a Robert son of William paid the first of three instalments (1180-1182) of a relief of 50s. Joan died 2 November 1461 according to British Library Add. MS. 27,948, f. 1 [Catalogue of Additions ..., vol. 2 (1877)].
