Volume 12, Part 1, page 502:
He
[William (de Warenne), Earl of Surrey (d. 1240)]
m., 1stly, Maud.(m)
Note m:
She is alleged to have been da. of an Earl of Arundel, to have d. 6 Feb.
1215/6 and to have been bur. in the chapter-house of Lewes Priory (Lewes Cartulary,
Suss. Rec. Soc., pt. ii, p. 18). The date 6 Feb. (no year) as the date of death of a Maud,
Countess de Warenne, is confirmed by an Obit in the Beauchief Abbey Register
(Clay, E.Y.C., vol. iii, p. 25, note 11).
Douglas Richardson, in January 2003, provided evidence to support this identification, in the form of a reference in 1207 to "homines comitis War', qui duxit filiam comitis Arund'" [citing Curia Regis Rolls, vol. 5, pp. 33-34].
