Volume 12, part 1, page 177:
She [Margaret, wife of Ralph (de Stafford), Lord Stafford (d. 1372)] d. after 28 Jan. 1347/8.(c)
Note c:
In Cal. Inq. p.m., vol. xi, no. 471, the date of her death is given as 16 Sep. 1347; but it is clear from Cal. Patent Rolls, 1348-50, p. 19, that she was living on 28 Jan. 1347/8; and conclusive evidence that she surv. her father, who d. 10 Nov. 1347, is collected in the first edition of this work, vol. vii, p. 210.

HUGH (DE STAFFORD), EARL OF STAFFORD, LORD STAFFORD and LORD AUDLEY [d. 1386] ... On his mother's death in 1348 he suc. (according to modern doctrine) as LORD AUDLEY.

Brad Verity, in June and August 2003, provided evidence that Margaret was still living in August 1349, when she and her husband visited her aunt Elizabeth de Burgh at Usk [citing Frances Underhill in For her good estate: the life of Elizabeth de Burgh (1999)], but was dead by 1 March 1350/1 [citing the Calendar of Patent Rolls]. This implies that her son Hugh must have succeeded between 1349 and 1350/1, not in 1348.
