CROMER (d. Jan. 1433/4) ...
In 1416 Robert's wife was called Eleanor, and was then pregnant [Canterbury and York Society, vol. 46, p. 455 (1945)]. The marriage settlement of Robert's son Richard, dated 8 April 1423, mentions several manors held for the lives of Robert and Eleanor, his wife [Suffolk Record Office, reference 449/2/648].
Regarding the date given above for the marriage to Elizabeth Grey, note that Robert's marriage was later (31 January 1398) granted to William Lescrope, earl of Wiltshire.
[The evidence that Robert's wife was called Eleanor was pointed out by Douglas Richardson in August 2002 and August 2019. This problem was further discussed by Dave Utzinger, Paul Reed, Adrian Channing and Doug Thompson in August 2002.]
