This Berta was living 10 Feb. 1266/7 (Patent Roll, 51 Hen. III, m. 26). She had m., 2ndly, Ralph le Bigod, whose widow she was, 28 July 1260 (Fine Roll, 44 Hen. III, m. 5).

Ray Phair, in August 2000, produced evidence identifying Berta as the daughter of William (de Ferrers), Earl of Derby (d. 1247) [citing Calendar of Inquisitions Miscellaneous, vol. 1, no 204; R. Thoroton, The Antiquities of Nottinghamshire, ed. J. Throsby, vol. 3, pp. 390-1 (1790-6, reprinted 1972)].

[The same identification had earlier been given by Douglas Richardson, in June 2000, though without citing evidence.

Volume 5, page 591:
She [Maud Neville (d. 1421)] m., before 12 Mar. 1406/7, as 1st wife, John TALBOT, 2nd son of Sir Richard TALBOT, of Goodrich [LORD TALBOT], by Ankarette, his wife ...

Douglas Richardson, in May 2003, pointed out evidence that John and Maud were married by 8 March 1406/7, when they were involved in a suit concerning Furnival's Inn, in the parish of St Andrew Holborn, London [citing A. H. Thomas, Select Pleas and Memoranda of the City of London, A.D. 1381-1412, p. 279 (1932)].
