Volume 10, page 201:
... in July 1142 the Empress granted him [Aubrey de Vere (d. 1194)] a charter, as Earl or Count Aubrey, by which she conceded that he should be Earl of Cambridgeshire, with the third penny, unless that county were held by the King of Scots; in which case, if she could not obtain it by exchange, Aubrey should be Earl of Oxfordshire, Berkshire, Wiltshire, or Dorsetshire at his option.

R. H. C. Davis [English Historical Review, vol. 79, pp. 299-307 (1964)] argued that the charter making Aubrey an earl should instead be dated between 25 July and 1 August 1141.
