Volume 3, page 246, 247, as corrected in volume 14:
RICHARD DE CLARE [d. 1318], br. and h. of Gilbert de C., was s. of Thomas de C., Lord of Thomond in Connaught,(c) by Julian, da. and h. of Sir Maurice FITZMAURICE, Lord Justice of Ireland. ... He m. Joan, who surv. him and was living 20 Apr. 1322.
Note c:
He was Gov. of Colchester Castle 1266, and Gov. of the City of London 1273, and d. 29 Aug. 1287.

Thomas de Clare was a younger son of Richard de Clare, Earl of Gloucester and Hertford (d. 1262). This identification was removed in volume 14, but appears to be correct (see Gloucester).

Richard's widow Joan seems to have still been living 12 May 1348, when an inquisition was taken after the death of Richard's nephew Giles de Badlesmere [Cal. Inq. p.m., vol.9, no 119].
