He
[Sir William Aton]
d. s.p.m.s. between 29 Sep. and Mar. 1388/9.(i)
Note i (continued on page 326):
On Michaelmas day 9 Ric. II, he gave his manor of Barlby to Sir Ralph
Eure, Sir John Conyers, and Sir William Playce (s. of Elizabeth Aton), for their
lives, &c. (Harl. MSS., no 245, ibid.). He d. before his son-in-law, Sir Edward
St. John
[i.e. before 7 March 1388/9]
(Close Roll, 12 Ric. II, m. 11).
He died between 1386 and 7 March 1388/9. (The date of his charter, 29 September 1385, is earlier than that of his deposition in the Scrope and Grosvenor case, dated apparently September or October 1386 [Sir N. H. Nicolas, Scrope and Grosvenor Controversy, vol. 1, p. 142].)
